Turn the Page on Your Aging Skin

As the rest of your body changes over time so should your skin regime. As we age our skin loses its elastic, collagen and oil that gave you that youthful glow that we enjoyed in our 20s and 30s. Wrinkles and sun damage, the sins of our youth, contribute to drab dull skin. Many of the moisturizers used on your skin when you were young provided the necessary ingredients, however once over 50 we should be looking for moisturizers that provide retention and wrinkle fighting retinols.

Start with using a gentle cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. Cream cleansers are great especially if you’re prone to dry skin. If you wish to exfoliate most experts agree no more than 3 times a week. Women over 50 tend to have delicate thinner skin that can be damaged if too aggressive with this part of your beauty routine. As an alternative choose a hydrating mask that will nourish your skin.

Once your skin is cleansed and ready for a restorative product it’s important to choose a moisturizer targeted for your age group. Even more important is using a serum which is simply a more intensified version of a good moisturizer. Although serum will cost you more than a typical moisturizer the results will be worth it in the long run. With a multitude of products to choose from you don’t have to break the bank to find one that fits your budget and works best for your skin.

No product on the market today will magically erase years of not taking care of your skin properly but with the right products, a little persistence and an occasional visit to your esthetician you should be on your way to putting your best face forward for years to come.
