The Versatility of Lavender

The Versatility of Lavender

Lavender is an aromatic member of the mint family native to the Mediterranean region, Northern and Eastern Africa and parts of India. Lavender by itself has many different uses and benefits including culinary, medicinal and practical.

For most people when lavender comes to mind they tend to think about its calming scent that can potentially reduce anxiety and aid in sleeping. That’s probably why it is used most commonly in aromatherapy through essential oils. But beware not all lavender essential oils are the same quality nor are the products that have a lavender aroma. dōTERRA, meaning “Gift of the Earth,” is easily the largest seller of essential oils in the world. There’s a reason your local store sells a $2 bar of lavender scented soap while you might pay upwards of $15 for a luxury bar. Many times the less expensive products are using synthetic perfumes made in laboratories rather than the true essential oils derived from the lavender fields, and yes there is a difference.

Today you can find lavender in sachets, cosmetics and even household products. Chances are that you have at least one item that contains lavender in your household already. If not, take the plunge this holiday season and enjoy the gift of lavender for yourself or someone you love. Whether you choose something as simple as a hand cream or diffuser that can be used with an assortment of essential oils not just lavender, you’ll soon be on your way to discovering the lifestyle benefits of this wonderful flowering plant.
